Purpose and use of robots.

A. Industrial Robots: Programed to preform industrial tasks e.g. car assembly lines. They are programed by humans can be reprogramed and usualy preform repetative tasks.They may also preform tasks that may be difficult for humans and can work in harsh conditions.

Domestic Robots: Robots that can be used around the house e.g. the iRobot Roomba, the austomatic vacume cleaner created by iRobot corporation and the robomower, automatic lawnmower which travels up and down the laws cuttin the grass. Entertainment robots: Entertainment robots such as the robo sapien, robo raptor, robo dog and furbies are mainly designed as toys, they preform simple activities such as walking and talking and are usualy usued by children of all ages. They may be remote control or use infa red and some respond to human activity.

B. Multi-purpose robots.

The FANUC Robot LR Mate 200iC is a great example of a multi-purpose robot, it is about the size of a human arm it is lite weight and is suitable to preform a wide varitey of tasks including machine tool handling, bin picking, assembly and insertion. It is also has a high reliability in the severe factory environment. The robot only weights 27kg so it can easily be instaled inside a machine or monted on a celing. Because of its capability to hold tools it can easily be used in maintinance and repair.
